Call For Code
In 2018 we started a global quest “Call For Code” with some of the most influential partners in technology and humanitarian organisations. We wanted to launch an initiative to solve some of the world’s biggest issues by creating solutions powered by open-source technology at scale.
Together with David Crack Cause, IBM put the call out to developer communities to address three major areas affected by Covid-19 pandemics: Remote Learning, Crisis Communication and Community Building.
We also joined forces with global partners, who believe in technology and its potential for good, including Linux Foundation, United Nations Human Rights and Clinton Global Initiative and American Red Cross.
As one of founding partners, IBM opened up its tools and software to 24 million developers and data scientists in the world. We have been overwhelmed and humbled by the sheer amount of interests from all around the world.
Over 300000 developers - or let’s say problem solvers - from 160 nations have gathered for building solutions that have an immediate and lasting impact on society.
IBM Chief developer advocate, Willie Tejada, launched the 2020 programme at the United Nations in Geneva to focus on climate change, but given how our world has changed over the past few months, we expanded the programme to focus on Covid-19.
I’m honoured to be hosting the European ceremony this year with a great line up of panelists to announce the winner from Europe.
Our panelists:
Marta Martínez GM EMEA at IBM
Robin Weninger Head of Call For Code Jury in Europe
Justin Halsall startup founder and hacker
Mariya Gabriel of the European Commission
